In reaction to concerns raised by The AIDS Institute and members of Florida's congressional delegation, the State of Florida will now be eligible to receive additional funding to maintain beneficiaries on its struggling AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP), but not enough to make a serious reduction to the waiting list, which now stands at 3,682 people.

Man-Up Summit to help Indian River County men lead better lives

This time last year, Keith Woulard of Gifford frequented his favorite fast-food restaurants like McDonald's, KFC and Burger King almost every day. After attending the inaugural Man-Up summit last year at the Gifford Youth Activity Center, which had a workshop dedicated to high blood pressure and associated diseases and health issues common in the black community, Woulard vowed to live a healthier lifestyle. Now he only eats fast food on weekends.

AIDS advocates say Florida narrowly avoided a catastrophe this month that would have left thousands of patients, including hundreds in Palm Beach County, without their medicine for nearly two months. But they fear that the same financial crisis will return next year - potentially leaving thousands scrambling to get the cocktail of drugs needed to keep their deadly illness in check.

This report seeks to mobilize men to eliminate their risk for acquiring or transmitting HIV/AIDS. The report also seeks to encourage men to “man up” and take responsibility for the consequences of their sexual actions and other HIV risk behaviors, for the benefit of themselves and their partners. The goal is to stimulate the development and implementation of community action plans to prevent the further spread of HIV/AIDS among Florida’s men and their partners.
